| There are some books, DVDs, CDs and Videos that are locked behind glass doors. These items can only be borrowed when a volunteer is present and need to be signed out by each resident. Books, Videos and DVD's that have been signed should be returned by putting them in the "RETURN" slot located in the desk. All other returned books and donations can be placed on the book rack situated just inside the door. Feel free to drop off any books you have enjoyed and want to share with your neighbors. The Library is a center of Community information as well. Work Orders for the Maintenance Department are available and can be filled out and left in the pick-up box there. You are welcome to spend some time at the library any time. Our volunteers are cheerful and helpful and are very much appreciated. |

It may have been a long, hot, humid summer, but your Library has stayed "cool" and
added many books and DVD's for your enjoyment.
The Library Fund recently purchased two Pulitzer Prize winning books for our Library.
"The Fiery Trial" (Abraham Lincoln and American Slavery), written by Eric Foner in
2010. It was purchased with a donation made in memory of Lee Gordon. The book was
awarded the 2010 Bancroft Prize and the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for History.
The purchase of "A Visit From The Goon Squad" written by Jennifer Egan and published
in 2010 was made through a donation from Burt Mandell in memory of Carole Bressler.
This book won the 2010 National Book Critics Award as well as the 2011 Pulitzer Prize
for Fiction.
Here are a few of the new books to watch for: a couple of new J.D. Robb mysteries;
David Baldacci's "One Summer" and the much praised "Stone Arabia" by Diana Spiotta.
And if you want a great read, "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet" by David
Mitchell won't disappoint!
I will be loaning some books which I hope you'll enjoy: "The Reclusives" by Mark
Damon Puckett is a collection of short stories about people who become recluses, a
wellwritten work. And three books by Bradford Wheeler: "Dog Sayings", "Horse
Sayings", and "Snappy Sayings", each a collection of quotes with original artwork
collected from artists and photographers.
Among the movies to be added next month are: ARTHUR; BARNEY'S VERSION;
FRIENDS (WITH BENEFITS); SOURCE CODE; UNKNOWN. On order are:
BRIDESMAIDS; WATER FOR ELEPHANTS; THE CONSPIRATOR; and the latest
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN.
